Manuel Torres Design worked on the complete refurbishment of a 100 m² eyewear shop on Rambla Catalunya, an area known as the commercial hub of the Catalan capital.
The first Moscot optical shop in Spain arrives in Barcelona. This American firm, founded in 1915 in New York by Hyman Moscot, gained fame for designing optical frames and sunglasses. Being a family business, they have been in the market for five generations and hold 109 years of experience. Designs at Moscot’s optical shop stand out for their classic, elegant, and vintage styles, which have been worn on countless occasions by many celebrities. Their store in Barcelona becomes the first in Spain and the thirtieth shop in the world.
A complete refurbishment for Moscot Optical Shop
The aim of this project has been to support the brand in its expansion process in Spain. To achieve this, and considering the master project and design guidelines, we adapted the design plan and furniture in order to fit the space.
The complete refurbishment of the Moscot optical shop was done in a ten-week period during Spring and Summer. At Manuel Torres Design, we ensured that all the legal requirements and permits were met as per the local regulations of the city of Barcelona, as well as following all the brand requirements.
Exclusive design and sophisticated details
Contemplating that the shop will be a high-traffic space, we chose suitable materials. These included stained oak for the floorings, custom-made wooden displays, a handcrafted metal piece for the ceiling, and a faux brick wall. The design and furnishing choices were made to match the global design of Moscot Optical Shop.
As for the lighting, we included dimmable lights to enhance specific areas or change the ambience throughout the day. The bespoke displays also include lighting but do not have the option to be dimmed. The main lighting pieces are two ceiling-mounted lamps that contain a fan, which were installed in the checkout area in order to highlight it.
All the details and objects, such as neon lights, backlit exterior signs, awnings, pieces of vinyl, and even the paint colour, are part of the brand’s corporate image.
For this project, Manuel Torres Design offered its support to the client in all the stages of the refurbishment of the Moscot Optical Shop, contributing extensive experience in the development and renovation of commercial premises. We have been present in each one of the mandatory processes that come with opening a new store. Our role included taking charge of fundamental aspects such as consultancy for the selection of the premises, the drawing up of the plans of the current state of the premises, the restructuring of the spaces with a new distribution, the execution of the refurbishment and the management of all the documentation necessary to legalise the work and the activity.
